We turned around and saw he didn’t respond. “It turned out he wasn’t breathing or anything. I just called it in. He was just laying in the middle of the street. I came through here and he was there. He wasn’t breathing. His fists were clenched…” The slaying did not appear to be gang- or narcotics-related, Davalos said, adding that it would be investigated as an attempted robbery. A man trying to defend himself with pepper spray was fatally shot today during an apparent robbery attempt near the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles, authorities said. The shooting occurred on South Lucerne Blvd., between Wilshire Boulevard and West 8th Street, said Lt. Victor Davalos of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Wilshire Station. Police received reports around 12:35 a.m. of a male lying in the middle of the street, Davalos said. Officers at the location discovered a man dead from gunshot wounds, he said.
