first_img Categories: Bizon News,News State Rep. Dr. John Bizon today announced the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Board has recommended to purchase land for a trailhead in Albion Township.Bizon, of Battle Creek, said the recommended grant will help expand the Iron Belle Trail through the city of Albion and the Albion College’s Equestrian Center. Funding for the project is comprised of revenue from the lease of state land and is designated on an annual basis in partnership with local governments. The grant announcement coincides with the ribbon cutting for the Community-College Trail in the city of Albion, which was partially funded by a $294,000 Trust Fund grant.“This new land purchase will increase the recreational opportunities for local families and for visitors to our communities,” Bizon said. “We have a wealth of natural resources in this area, and development of the site will give people easy access to those resources, the city and the Kalamazoo River. In concert with the Community College Trail, this new project will further connect the region.”Acquisition of the 65 acres in Albion Township is the start of a development that will eventually be a trailhead and public recreational area for eastern Calhoun County. The trailhead will serve several recreational assets, including the Iron Belle Trail. The Legislature will consider the recommendations later this year.##### 10Jan Rep.
