Publisher Buys 500 Domains Launches Aggregate Network

first_imgLOUD3R, a network of 25 Web sites that aggregate enthusiast online content, has launched with an ambitious plan to roll out at least 10 new sites a month until all 500 of the domains it owns are live. “In some ways, these guys are inheriting the magazine advertising model online,” a spokesman for the company told FOLIO:. “They are in an excellent position to serve high-CPM, targeted ads since the visitors to the sites are already interested in the topic at hand.” The network is based on an internally-built semantic publishing platform similar to that of Inform Technologies, which is used by publishers including Conde Nast, Washington Post, IDG and FOLIO:. Each site is launched “with minimal cost and manpower,” according to the company—editors assemble a source list of Web sites related to a topic, ranging from motorcycles (FAST3R) to wine (DECANT3R) to venture capital (FOUND3R) to soccer (STRIK3R), along with a glossary of terms that the engine “learns” and uses to seek out related online content online. The system also learns to weed out spam and fake or repeated Web sites and blogs. LOUD3R’s revenue strategy includes selling ads—through a network the company refused to disclose at this time—as well as data services. For example, LOUD3R could track all content related to a particular company and either sell it as a feed of data for the company to publish or as a white-label, standalone site. The company currently operates with four full-time employees and three part-time editors.last_img read more

Congresss button malfunctions on EVMs in Poonch

first_imgPUNIT PARANJPE/AFP/Getty ImagesWith the beginning of Phase I of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission is also geared up to address any problem which may occur during polling and counting of votes. With only a few hours into polling, Congress is already facing problems with many voters claiming that the party’s symbol was not working on the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in Shahpur and other parts of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir. This delayed voting while the machines were fixed. A polling officer in the region explained that voting was delayed due to the malfunction EVM. Congress’s allegations of EVM tampering Congress, which is known for its allegations of EVM tampering in the previous elections, has now fallen a victim to its own claims. During the Madhya Pradesh state assembly elections in December 2018, Congress had released a video of EVMs being carried out of a luxury hotel in Madhya Pradesh. In a series of tweets, the party’s treasurer, Ahmed Patil, had said, “Sensing a defeat in Madhya Pradesh & Chattisgarh, some are indulging in desperate measures by attempting to tamper with EVM’s in strong rooms. Urge the EC to investigate & take concrete action.”He then wrote,I am submitting four suggestions to Election Commission ahead of Chattisgarh counting-1) Kindly allow representatives of all political parties while transporting EVM’s to counting centres from strong rooms2) Cross check if postal ballots were received from eligible voters.3) Review conduct of top officials in 3 districts-Rajnandgaon, Kondagaon & Bilaspur4) Initiate second round of counting only after completion of first round.”last_img read more

Photo: PIDPrime minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said the security and stability of Bangladesh could be hampered if the displaced Rohingya people cannot be repatriated soon, reports UNB.”If we can’t send them back soon, there’s an apprehension that our security and stability will be at stake,” she told parliament while replying to a tabled question from Awami League MP Nur Mohammad (Kishoreganj-2).The prime minister said, “It’s very tough for us to arrange food, clothes and accommodation for over 1.1 million Myanmar nationals for an indefinite time.”This is why the government has been making diplomatic efforts to find out a permanent solution since the very beginning of the crisis for sending the forcibly-displaced Rohingyas back to their homeland, she said.Sheikh Hasina said the displaced people, deprived of basic rights by the Myanmar authorities, are naturally suffering from dissatisfaction.Noting that any repatriation process is a very complicated and lengthy process, she said Bangladesh and the international community are exerting pressure on Myanmar to create a congenial environment in Rakhine state.Unfortunately, she said, it is true there has been no visible progress in the situation due to a rigid stance of Myanmar government.Besides, Myanmar is involved in carrying out propaganda in the international arena that the Rohingya repatriation is being delayed for the noncooperation of Bangladesh, she added. The prime minister said Bangladesh repeatedly raised voice in different fora that Myanmar is responsible for taking back its all the displaced people, and Myanmar will have to take the initiative in this regard. She said Bangladesh and Myanmar signed a total of three bilateral agreements. The repatriation process would be completed within two years according to an agreement out of three. “But the Myanmar government has delayed the process by creating in many ways.”In reply to a question from treasury bench member M Abdul Latif (Chattogram-11), the prime minister said the government has set a target to create some 15 million jobs in the next five years. She said the present government has taken various measures to transform the young generation into human resources by creating jobs in the country in line with strategies and targets of the 7thfive-year plan (2016-20).last_img read more
